Credits and refunds

This policy is part of the terms of service. It explains how credits work and when you can get your money back.

What a credit is

A credit is a unit you spend to run tasks through Vortops. Each task and model has a price in credits, shown before it runs. Credits have no cash value outside a refund we owe you under this policy, and they cannot be transferred to another account without our agreement.

Where credits come from

  • Test keys. Test keys never run a model and never use credits, so building and checking an integration is free. Some products built on Vortops give their own users free credits; those are the product's offer, not Vortops'.
  • Prepaid credits. Bought in advance, in US dollars.
  • Subscription credits. Granted each time a subscription payment succeeds, at a lower price per credit than prepaid credits.
  • Metered accounts. No credits are bought in advance. Usage is converted at the agreed rate and invoiced in arrears, up to the spend limit you set.

No expiry, and rollover

Credits you have bought or been granted by a subscription do not expire. Anything you do not use stays on your account, month after month, including after a subscription ends. If you stop using Vortops, your balance stays available if you come back, until your account is closed.

How credits are spent

  • Free credits are used first, then subscription credits, then prepaid credits.
  • The price of a task in credits can change. A change applies to tasks run after the change and never reduces the number of credits already in your balance.
  • A request that fails because of a fault on our side is not charged. A request that runs but gives you a result you do not like is charged, because the work was done.
  • If your balance is too low, the task does not run and nothing is charged.

Gifting credits

  • Once you have bought credits or a plan on a site, you can give some of your credits on that site to someone who already has an account there, from the Billing page.
  • A gift is final. It has no cash value, cannot be taken back or exchanged for money, and cannot be moved to another site. Free credits cannot be gifted by an account that has never paid.
  • Gifts are limited to 5 a day and 20,000 credits a day per account. We may reverse a gift that is the result of fraud, a chargeback or a mistake.
  • Refunds apply to the person who paid. If a payment is refunded or reversed after some of its credits were gifted or spent, we may take the difference back from the balance of the account that paid.

Refunds

  • You can ask for a refund of a credit purchase or subscription payment within 30 days of the charge. We refund the part you have not used, to the original payment method.
  • Credits you have already spent are not refunded, except where a fault on our side meant you did not get what you paid for.
  • Free credits are not refunded.
  • If we end your account without a breach on your part, or remove a feature you paid for, we refund the unused paid credits.
  • Consumer protection law may give you more rights than this policy does. Those rights are not affected.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions renew until cancelled, monthly or yearly. A yearly subscription is paid once for twelve months at a 10% discount, and all twelve months of credits are added to your account when the payment succeeds. Cancel from your account at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep the credits you already have. We tell you before the price of a subscription changes, and you can cancel before the new price applies.

Currency and taxes

All prices and charges are in US dollars. Taxes are added where required and shown before you pay.
